Almere is unlike the other places we cover, mainly in one respect: it's enormous and spread out. The city was built from the 1970s onwards on reclaimed land, with generous spacing and districts that sit a long way apart. All twenty-four escorts travel there.

This is the practical point that trips people up in Almere. There's a quarter of an hour's drive between Almere Haven and Almere Buiten. Almere Poort is off on another side again, right by the bridge. Give us only Almere and we can't quote an arrival time that means anything.
So say whether you're in Stad, Buiten, Haven or Poort, and give the full address with house number and any suffix. The neighbourhoods here are made up of near-identical streets, courtyards and home zones, and satnav sometimes drops you a hundred metres off. That's exactly the ten minutes you don't want to lose.
The Hollandse Brug
From Amsterdam it's half an hour via the A1 and A6. The bottleneck is the Hollandse Brug, where all the traffic converges; when it's busy or there's an incident it stops dead. We check how it's running just before departure and tell you if that pushes the estimate up.
Almere Poort, incidentally, is the quickest corner — it sits right behind the bridge.
